Announcements for 9/28 - 10/2

Posted by David |

1. Light the Night--Wesley will meet on Legion Field Wednesday night at 8 (between Bolton and Hill Community Housing). Don't come to Tate 2--we won't be there!

2. In that same theme, NO LEADERSHIP PRAYER. Enjoy the night!

3. Fall Retreat is the 16th and 17th of next month. Put it on your calendars...more details to come. Our own Clay Kirkland will be leading our time with a former Wesley Director, Micah Eldridge.

As we are getting poured on in the literal sense, it has been brought to our attention to ponder how we’re doing in the spiritual sense.

How are you doing? How are you feeling? A few photos are posted above—which do you feel that you would identify with? Still, and resting? Feeling dry? Overwhelmed? Pursuing more? Growing? Playing in the waves?

As you identify with how you’re doing, we encourage you to take it to the Lord. To pray, to pursue, to rest, to ultimately just press-on into the Lord.

Pray by Praying

Posted by Anonymous |

It is often easy to become frustrated in the place of prayer. We often don't know what to pray, when to pray, or how to pray. I grow weary and find it difficult to persist in prayer (Luke 18). We fail to cry out for those that need the Lord's help, His healing, or His salvation. We are weak and it is easy to give up. However, God has so much more for us! I need reminding that prayer is simply communion (being) with the one who made me, who loves me, who pursues me, and who desires to live His life through me.

I find great comfort in knowing that the disciples needed help in prayer and asked Jesus to "teach us to pray" (Luke 11:1). C.H. Spurgeon says, "Prayer itself is an art which only the Holy Spirit can teach us. Pray for prayer. Pray until you can really pray." We are fully dependent on God to draw us to our knees and show us how to pray. We learn how to pray and grow in prayer by... praying! Prayer is not the means to an end. It is the end! Fellowship and communion with our Heavenly Father is what this life is all about. He is inviting us; He is calling us; He is waiting for us!

Do you long for something more in your prayer life? Do you want to learn how to pray? Do you hunger to go deeper with God in prayer? Then pray! He is so gracious in meeting us right where we are.

Join us this Friday night from 10:00 pm - 2:00 am for the semester's first Friday Night Fire. Come and experience an environment where you can worship and pray freely as the Lord draws you closer to Him. We desire to be the watchmen of Isaiah 62:6 that pray "all day and all night" and who "never keep silent" nor "take a rest." There is intimacy and power in corporately praying during the night. We would love to experience the Lord with each of you!

It's DINNER Time...

Posted by Anonymous |

For the past six years Wesley has hosted a Fundraising Dinner to raise needed monetary support for the ministry. Last year on the day of the fundraising dinner the largest financial sector shake up in U.S. history occurred, and that night the fundraiser dinner raised more money than ever before. Each year amazing testimonies of the Lord’s provision come from this dinner.

This year the UGA Wesley Foundation needs to raise over $210,000 for operating costs and rent at Tate 2. This evening is not solely about raising money (though it is very important). This is also an incredible opportunity for your parents and family to learn about what goes on at the UGA Wesley Foundation. Information about each ministry area will be shared, and all staff are present that evening.

On September 25 will be the seventh fundraising dinner. You and your family are invited to come to this exciting evening. Your meal is free (and delicious!), and you’ll hear powerful testimonies and from our guest speaker, Michael Mozley. Check-out some information about him at http://www.missionsociety.org/people/mozley

We pray that you and your family will be able to attend. R.S.V.P. at www.ugawesley.org. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask the intern who disciples you.

A day for leaders

Posted by Anonymous |

Next Thursday, September 17, we are going to offer a day of fun and fellowship for you guys at Wesley. There will be snacks, volleyball, four-square, card games, video games, and an opportunity to hang out with staff and other leaders between 12:30 and 3:30.

The purpose of this event is two-fold. We want to put on something fun for you to let you know that you are appreciated. A HUGE chunk of the ministry that happens at Wesley happens through you. We recognize this, and want you to know that we are thankful for you! Secondly, we want you to have an opportunity to meet new people as well as build on existing relationships amongst staff and other leaders.

Come join us if you can and look for similar events to come in the future!

unite...

Posted by David |

Prayer and unity: two of the big themes of the past decade at Wesley. I wanted to remind you about UNITE, the prayer service tomorrow night in Tate 2. Over the last few years, there have been several events that have tried to bring campus ministries together, and each has played a part in the growing unity among the Christian bodies on campus. Tuesday will be the first time that an event will be truly organized and led by multiple groups, with no single person or body taking the forefront. We couldn’t be more pumped!

Over the years, Wesley has seen some amazing things happen through the Father’s generous answers to prayer. Our big chapel exists because a group of students and staff fasted and prayed for several weeks to the end that a random, out of the blue, gift was made that enabled the building to be constructed. There have been prayers that shifted the entire course of the ministry, prayers that upheld the body in very difficult times. We hope that our united worship and prayers tomorrow night will change the climate of campus and continue the radical move of God that has been growing during the last few years.

Hope you can make it…8pm @ Tate 2.

Healing Conference Recap

Posted by Anonymous |

Last weekend a team from Bethel Church in Atlanta came to minister and teach on God’s heart for healing. Friday night Steve Hale discussed the keys to the supernatural, focusing on that it is our intimacy with the Lord and our identity in Him that are the keys to healing. Everything starts with identity and intimacy: who God is, who He says we are, and spending time in His presence. It is through these things that confidence and boldness are built, which lead us to walk in authority and power. Also on Friday night many who were present experienced physical healing.

Saturday morning Scott Thompson and Steve Hale facilitated a question-and-answer session, addressing questions such as, “does God give people sickness” and “why does God not heal all of the time.” Our questions (especially about healing) can push us into the heart of God or open doors that lead us away. We need to line our questions up with the foundational truths of who God is. God is good! We cannot use our experiences to explain who God is, but we have to let God talk to us about our experiences. When there is a gap between what we experience and who we know God to be, we have to let Him address the gap and bring our experiences up to where He is, and not bring Him down or manipulate Him to match our limited understanding. A sign of our maturity is our ability to live in mystery; to be okay without all the answers; to stand on the promises and Truth of God despite what our circumstances would have us think/feel.

On Saturday afternoon we were sent out to walk in what we had been learning. Groups went to locations such as Target and Wal-mart to pray for people’s healing. Part of the purpose in this was to demonstrate that we don’t need to be afraid of asking God to heal people – it’s a very good thing! After all, even if their condition doesn’t improve, they’ve had a love encounter with God. Even better, there is the possibility they will have a love encounter AND get healed! It’s happened before, and it’s not as rare as most think.

The session closed on Saturday night with Scott Thompson talking about the necessity of learning to be a steward of God’s presence, which is so much more important than focusing on healing or the supernatural only. We are to be a student of God’s presence, always learning and seeking after Him. It’s His presence that saves, heals, and delivers. We carry His presence with us. We are forever learning about God’s heart for people, for healing, and for ourselves. And we encourage a lifestyle of learning by submitting and obeying. When we walk out and live what we are learning, we will see miracles, signs, and wonders. He has called us to listen, to watch Him, and then to go out. At the end of the night the team facilitated a prayer tunnel in which they asked the Lord to impart to us the gift of His healing.

We love the opportunity to offer these conferences to you. Our heart is to see you grow deeper in relationship with Christ as you understand his heart as well as his power. If you attended this conference and have any questions, please do not hesitate to talk to your discipler or the healing prayer staff.

Check-in later this week to read testimonies from the weekend!

If you are interested in praying for people on the healing prayer nights that Wesley offers once a month, there is a mandatory training session on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wesley Foundation building on Lumpkin Street.
