...on Wesley Wednesday night.

How do you overcome distractions during the service? How do you prepare your heart for what the Lord might want to do in you?

On Wednesday it is really easy for me to get distracted.

When distractions begin to get my attention-noises, to-do lists, etc. I realize that those distractions do not control me, and that I am in control of thoughts and behavior. I can acknowledge the growing to-do list in my mind, but I choose to not let it occupy my thoughts. There are tons of noises going on, but my choice is to not make those my focus. Choosing my focus is what I do when it comes to distractions.

There are several ways I deal with distractions in order to prepare for quality time with the Lord.
1. Take care of the things I can take care of in a timely fashion. It's easy to let homework pile up and then for them to become distractions during worship. The simple solution is just to suck it up and do it. I can look forward to undistracted or at least less distracted time with the Lord and have free time.
2. Trust in God for the things I can do little to nothing about. I can't help that dear-friend-1 is sick. I can indeed pray for them and love on them, but there should definitely be an understanding that God hears my prayers and cares enough to help me through the though circumstances in life. Why then should I worry and let it distract?
The bottom line with distractions is: Are you really going to let them rob you of sweet time your Lord/Savior/Friend or are you going to do what you can and trust Him to take care the rest?

I raise my hands, keeping them outstretched to God when singing and worshiping.

I have the same problem, I begin thinking of all the things that I should have done, should be doing,etc.. So it helps me when I make a list of all the things, even in the middle of it all, and then my thoughts come to a rest...and lots of prayer helps as well!
