Soles 4 Souls

Posted by Ashley Plant |

This Thanksgiving, UGA students in the Institute for Leadership Advancement, partnering with the Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division, invite you to step up and help Soles4Souls harvest 250,000 pairs of shoes for the poor. This initiative will go through Monday, November 30th, the day after we all get back from Thanksgiving Break.

Americans have over 1.5 billion pairs of shoes in our closets, and it's time we take the extra pairs and give them to people who will treasure them for years to come.  Soles4Souls, the shoe charity, needs our help to make the Thanks4Giving program a HUGE success in Georgia and across the country. This unique event will touch the lives of thousands of individuals during the fall season, when most of us are enjoying the warmth and safety of our homes, families and friendships. Of course, there are millions of people without any of these, and during the upcoming holidays we are working to provide much-needed relief in an otherwise bleak time.

What type of shoes are accepted in the Thanks4Giving program?
All gently worn shoes from men, women and children are accepted - from tennis shoes to dress shoes – all are accepted.  Please connect the matching pair of shoes together with a rubber band or the laces of the shoes themselves.

You can drop shoes off in Soles4Souls drop boxes placed at the following UGA campus locations:
UGA Wesley Foundation, Brumby Hall, Creswell Hall, Ohouse, Myers Hall, the Main Library, the Science Library, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Kappa Psi, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta.

When you go home for Thanksgiving break, grab your family's extra shoes too! Thank you so much! Every pair counts!

re:fresh senior edition update

Posted by Anonymous |

Last week seniors and super-seniors were invited to attend re:fresh, senior edition. We are thankful for each of you who attended, and had an excellent time with you.

A quick re-cap...
Bob spoke into the fear that "Wesley is IT spiritually." That is a LIE, and while Wesley is a great place to be at, it is not your spiritual peak, but rather, a foundation. It is important to not take Wesley for granted, and to take the opportunities that you have. Clay talked about breaking out of routine, and the necessity of learning to feed yourself. David spoke about the call on our lives to become disciple-makers. A note-able point David made-the discipleship model at Wesley is unique. Outside of this setting, a more typical discipleship model is of individuals living life together, spurring one another into Christlikeness. That leads us to some self-reflection now, how is your lifestyle reflecting Christ?

If you would like to receive a copy of the resource that was distributed via email, please contact Diana at dianazylow@gmail.com

Juniors, your re:fresh time is this week, and Sophomores, you're up next week!

Reading Truth Over Athens!!

Posted by Ashley Plant |

Hi brothers and sisters,

We have had on our hearts recently to read outload the whole Bible over the city.   As most of you know we have done this before, but its been confirmed that it is time to do this again, for many reasons that we understand, and some reasons that we dont.  Perhaps its just the best way to thank God for HIs Word, and proclaim it as the Only Truth over our city that needs to be transformed into Truth.  In a way, this is prayer over the city.

Please join us this week, downtown in the Fred Building in this.  We will be on the 3rd floor, overlooking the city (to the right off the elevator), on the corner of the building.  When we have done it before, its taken 5 or 6 days to read the Bible outloud.  Please join us as we do this by signing up for some time to do this....www.tribeissachar.com.

grace and peace to you in Christ Jesus

for thought...

Posted by David |

I hope you picked up a fasting guide last night during the service. If you didn't get a chance, I'd encourage you to check out Bill Bright's fasting instructions at:
http://www.ccci.org/growth/growing-closer-to-god/how-to-fast/index.aspx.

By way of preparation this weekend, I hope you'll spend a bit of time asking the Lord what he's calling you to specifically for next Monday to Wednesday. One of my favorite passages on fasting (if you can classify "most convicting" and "favorite" in the same group) is Zechariah 7:5.

"Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, 'When you fasted and mourned in the
fifth and seventh month these seventy years, was it actually for me that you fasted?"

My hope for you on Leadership is that your heart would be toward the Lord, not to earn his favor or grace by a deed well done; that you would seek with simplicity and purity of devotion (II Corinthians 11:3). More thoughts to come...
